Good starts for Comer, Kierans and Cbs against Dublin and Wexford opposition. Think Comer aren't as good as last few years. The other two look strong

Leinster Colleges League Final on today in Nowlan Park at 2pm and not a dicky bird about it here as far as I can make out. Kierans v CBS should be a cracker with so many Minor hopefuls and former Minors involved.Kierans struggled to get past North Dublin last week while CBS inflicted heavy defeats on both Peters and Enniscorthy CBS.

If you're at this I'd love to hear how it goes. Come on the college!

A last-minute goal from Michael Brennan earned St Kieran's a somewhat lucky draw with city rivals, Kilkenny CBS, in this thrilling league final at Nowlan Park yesterday.

There was nothing between the teams in the early stages. Two goals during the closing minutes of the half from Stephen Farrell and Peter Vickery carried the CBS into a good interval lead of 3-8 to 1-7.

When the CBS added three more points during the opening five minutes of the new half they looked to be flying. Kieran's sought inspiration from any quarter before a 52nd-minute goal from Brennan lifted their spirits (3-12 to 2-11).

John Power and Mason Clifford (CBS) traded points before Kieran's sub Thomas O'Hanrahan shot a nice point that left just a goal between the teams with less than a minute to go. Brennan then roared to Kieran's rescue, just in the nick of time.

The replay has been fixed for the same venue next Wednesday.

Scorers -- Kilkenny CBS: P Vickery 2-1, S Farrell 1-3 (0-5f), E McGrath 0-3, O Walsh, B Kennedy 0-2 each, C Kenny, M Clifford 0-1 each. St Kieran's College: M Brennan 2-2, J Power 0-7 (6f), C Buckley 1-0, N Creane 0-2, S Phelan, T O'Hanrahan 0-1 each.

Kilkenny CBS -- E Burke; J Lynch, A Forristal, P Moore; C Roche, R Doyle, G Gaule; O Walsh, E McGrath; B Kennedy, C Kenny, M Clifford; P Vickery, S Farrell, M Holohan. Sub: J Glennon for M Holohan.

St Kieran's College -- M Donnelly; L Hickey, R Lennon, P Walsh; A O'Dowd, B O'Connor, W Phelan; S Phelan, C O'Shea; N Creane, J Gannon, C Buckley; R Reid, J Power, M Brennan. Subs: T O'Hanrahan for R Reid, P O'Carroll for L Hickey, P Holden for N Creane, M Drennan for C O'Shea.

Ref -- E Mansfield (Cloneen).

Replay tomorrow in the Park at 2pm. Can't believe the paucity of interest on this site in a mouthwatering schools clash between two excellent teams who produced a classic in boggy conditions last Wed.There is a host of Minor stars past and present on view and the replay, if its half as good as the initial match, will be a riproaring contest. CBS let the College off the hook last week when in total control.Who has learned most from day one??? Time will tell.

St.Kieran's 2 - 10

KK CBS 2 - 8

St.Kieran's deserved their win, they looked the more likely all through.

KK CBS reduced a five point deficit to 2 points with five minutes to go. This came about for two reasons, firstly SKC took Ben O'Connor out of centre forward, where he had successfully curbed Richie Doyle's influence and CBS introduced Cathal Kenny from the subs bench and he made an immediate impact along with Richie Doyle suddenly scurrying up the field to land a point and dictate the play.

SKC will have tighten up around their own goal.

ST KIERAN'S College made no mistake in their replay against Kilkenny CBS, as John Power fired his side to victory.

Power fired a shot to the net early, but CBS hit back within a matter of seconds.

Peter Vickery ended a searing solo run with a fine goal, before netminder Eddie Burke drilled a 25-metre free to the net after eight minutes (2-2 to 1-1).

That was as good it got for the CBS, however. Power netted a free to level the game midway through the half. He added two more points before the break, as Kieran's took control (2-7 to 2-4). Three quick points from Sean Phelan, Power and Brennan sent Kieran's into a lead they would not relinquish.

Scorers -- St Kieran's: J Power 2-3 (1-2f), M Brennan 0-2, A Dowd, B O'Connor, S Phelan, N Creane, T O'Hanrahan 0-1 each. Kilkenny CBS: E Burke 1-1, (1-1f), R Doyle 0-3, (2f), P Vickery 1-0, Conor Kenny 0-2, G Gaule, Cathal Kenny 0-1 each.

St Kieran's College -- M Donnelly; P Carroll, R Lennon, P Walsh; A Dowd, B O'Connor, W Phelan; S Phelan, D Brennan; N Creane, J Gannon, M Brennan; M Whitley, J Power, T O'Hanrahan. Subs: C O'Shea, P Buggy, A Cantwell.

Kilkenny CBS -- E Burke; J Lynch, A Forristal, P Moore; C Roche, R Doyle, G Gaule; E McGrath, O Walsh; B Kennedy, Conor Kenny, M Clifford, M Houlihan, S Farrell, P Vickery. Subs: C Tynan, S Glynn, Cathal Kenny.

Ref -- E Mansfield (Kilkenny).

St Kieran's 3-18
Good Counsel 1-8
Leinster Colleges SHC 'A'

Monday February 08 2010

GOOD Counsel's reign as champions came to a shuddering halt as St Kieran's of Kilkenny stormed to a 16-point victory in this quarter-final clash in Carlow on Saturday.

Good Counsel started well but St Kieran's half-forward Thomas O'Hanrahan then struck two quick-fire goals and Padraig Walsh also impressed as he shot 1-3 from play in a superb first-half display to inspire St Kieran's to victory.

Scorers -- St Kieran's: T O'Hanrahan 2-1, P Walsh 1-3, J Power 0-5 (0-4f), M Brennan, P Buggy 0-3 each, C Buckley, W Phelan (0-1f), R Reid 0-1 each. Good Counsel: D Crowdle 1-0, M O'Hanlon (0-2f), N Doyle, C Joyce 0-2 each, J Guiney, S Barron (0-1f) 0-1 each.
===========================================================================
TWO GOALS in the closing 12 minutes hauled Castlecomer CS back from the jaws of defeat to secure a three-point victory over St Peter's College at Enniscorthy on Saturday.

St Peter's held a five-point advantage going into the closing five minutes but Stephen Daly and Charles Dwyer kept the Kilkenny side in touch.

But with 11 minutes left, Charles Dwyer crashed home a goal from a free and within 30 seconds Stephen Daly found the net to seal the win.

SCORERS -- Castlecomer: C Dwyer (1-1f), S Daly (0-3f) 1-3 each, E Mealy 1-1, P Keating 0-1 (0-1f). St Peter's Col: G Moore 0-11 (0-8f, 0-1 '65'), R Clarke, J Campbell, J O'Dowd 0-1 each.
=============================================================================
THREE goals in the space of seven minutes proved decisive in this tie as Kilkenny CBS moved within 60 minutes of a place in the Leinster final.

The Cats controlled this clash from start to finish with Stephen Farrell and Brian Kennedy slamming home goals early in the second half to ease them to victory.

Scorers -- Kilkenny CBS: S Farrell 2-3, B Kennedy 2-2, Cathal Kenny 0-4, O Walsh 0-3, Conor Kenny 0-2, M Hoolihan, S Glynn 0-1 each. Westmeath Sch: A Clarke 0-5, J Boyle 0-2, P Reilly 0-1.
